Bethel AME Church is located on Walnut Street in the downtown commercial district of Millen. This highly coveted property owned by the church is the final vestige of a once-thriving black community. Today, however, the residential value and livability of the property has diminished, making repurposing a priority.
To celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the Bethel AME Church congregation at this site, we are undertaking a Capital Campaign to enhance the utility and aesthetics of the property. Walnut Street is being transformed by the current expansion of Jenkins County Hospital. We are surrounded by facilities that have undergone renovations and upgrades. Our current initiative will ensure that we maintain the integrity of our presence in a high-profile sector of Millen. Our priorities for maximizing the relevant use of property and securing our legacy include:
Demolish existing structure (parsonage)
Remove diseased trees and excess foliage
Landscape greenspace to enhance curb appeal and expand Memorial Garden
Expand hard surfaces to minimize roadside parking and reliance on adjacent properties

Overview
Capital Campaign
This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:8 NIV)
The highlight of our 120th Anniversary Celebration is our Capital Campaign. This 3-Phase initiative is slated to be completed by October 29, 2023. Our goal is to improve the utility and viability, as well as the aesthetics of our church property. By removing the existing parsonage, constructing dedicated parking, and upgrading our greenspace, we enhance the curb appeal and maintain a stately presence in the community.
Phase 1
Phase 1 of our Capital Campaign will conclude with our 120th Anniversary Celebration, on Sunday, April 16, 2023. During this worship service, we will include the unveiling of our commemorative plaque. The personalized nameplates are dedicated to the memory of some of our trailblazing members who have left indelible footprints on our journey.
Phase 2
Phase 2 of our Capital Campaign begins April 1, 2023. We are inviting former pastors and former members; extended family and friends; churches and businesses to participate in this phase by purchasing nameplates. We will showcase the new donors on Sunday, July 30, 2023, during Family & Friends Day.
Phase 3
Phase 3 of our Capital Campaign begins August 1, 2023. We invite everyone who wants to be included in our improvement initiative to purchase the remaining personalized nameplates. Our culminating celebration will be held on October 29, 2023, with our Harvest Day Celebration. This celebration is open to the community, as we give thanks to God for everyone who has sowed into the success of our ongoing efforts to revitalize our property.
This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples. (NIV)
Thank You, for sowing a seed!
